Things You Need to Know About the Ronald McDonald Family Room

What is a Ronald McDonald Family Room?

While dealing with the uncertainty of illness or injury, parents of critically ill and injured children are often reluctant to leave the hospital.  They often live very far from the hospital and can't leave and return on a daily basis.  Launched in 1992 and now in over 90 locations throughout the world, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer all the comforts of home where families can eat, sleep, and relax, while being only steps away from their children.  The Family Room staff and volunteers provide comfort, support and friendship for the families while they endure the most difficult times of their lives.

General Information

• The Ronald McDonald Family Room is located on the 6th floor of The Children's Hospital.
• Our hours are from 8 am to 8pm Monday-Friday, and 9am-8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
• We provide laundry machines and detergent; hot showers and toiletries; computer access; snacks; and a comfortible living area and kitchen.
• All guests under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
• Our Sleep Rooms are very limited but are available for overnight use with a referral from your social worker.
  • Length of stay - Guests may stay up to 3 nights (denpending on availability)
  • All guests 18 and older must have a photo ID
  • Maximum of 2 guests per room (unless staying in our largest room)

OU Children's Physicians Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine serves as a state-wide referral center for premature and sick newborns.  Parents also come to Children's Hospital for Oklahoma's only comprehensive pediatric cancer unit which includes a stem cell tansplant unit  and a bone marrow transplant unit.
